Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Marubeni Corporation (Tokyo, Japan) has entered into an agreement with the Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) to develop two significant wind-energy projects in Saudi Arabia. These projects will be undertaken in partnership with Abdulaziz Alajlan Sons for Commercial and Real Estate Investments Company (Riyadh) and Ajlan & Bros (Riyadh).
As per the terms of the power purchase agreement signed by Marubeni Corporation and SPPC, the two wind projects--Al-Ghat and Waad Al-Shamal--will contribute 1.1 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy to the national grid. The Al-Ghat project, located in Riyadh Province, will have a capacity of 600 megawatts (MW), while the Waad Al-Shamal project in Northern Borders Province will generate 500 MW. SPPC will purchase the electricity produced by these facilities for 25 years after they begin commercial operations.
These projects are part of the fourth round of the Saudi National Renewable Energy Program, which is managed by the country's Ministry of Energy. This program aims to diversify Saudi Arabia's energy sources, reduce reliance on liquid fuels, and increase the share of renewable energy in the country's energy mix to 50% by 2030.
