Kinder Morgan Proposes New Natural Gas Pipeline in Texas

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Kinder Morgan Energy Partners LP (NYSE:KMP) (Houston, Texas) is planning to construct a new natural gas pipeline in northeast Texas. The proposed Carthage Pipeline Project is envisioned as a new 38-mile pipeline designed to export natural gas from the Barnett Shale area to Louisiana. The proposed $50 million pipeline project will originate near Beckville, Texas and run an easterly course, terminating near Stonewall, Louisiana. The pipeline will be designed to transport between 700 million and 1 billion cubic feet per day of natural gas. Depending on the final capacity, the diameter of the Carthage Pipeline will be either 30 or 36 inches.

To support the pipeline throughput, Kinder Morgan will construct one new compressor station, west of Beckville, Texas, near pipeline mile post 12. Depending on final design, the compressor station will be sized between 12,000 and 16,000 horsepower of compression. The compression will be entirely based on three or four reciprocating internal combustion drive compressor packages.

The proposed pipeline is intended to deliver natural gas to the Crosstex LIG system owned by Crosstex Energy Services LP. The Expanded LIG system will provide for redelivery farther east. The anticipated interconnects off the extended LIG system will include Texas Gas Transmission, Columbia Gulf Transmission, ANR Pipeline, Tennessee Gas Pipeline and Trunkline Gas Company.

Kinder Morgan Energy Partners expects to complete its open season evaluations and file with the FERC in late 2005. A general contractor should be selected by mid-2006 and construction on the Carthage Pipeline could begin by mid- to late 2006, with completion and in-service date targeted for mid-2007.
