Argentina and Chile Promote $13.6 Billion in Mining Investments
Argentine and Chilean authorities met last week in the Andean Country in order to promote the concretion of frontier mining projects. The projects are valued at approximately $13.6 billion and will generate 40,000 direct and indirect employees.
Currently, the main bi-national project is Pascua Lama, developed by the Canadian Firm Barrick Gold. The authorities also spoke about Pachon Project, developed by Minera Alumbrera and controlled by the Swiss firm Xstrata.
Peru Sells Participation in Cemento Andina for $55 Million
Cemento Andino is controlled by the local company Inversiones Andino, which has a 77% of the capital, while the Peruvian State has the 23% remaining. Proinversión, the entity responsible of Perus Privatizations, announced that the stocks will be bid at the Limas Stock Exchange from last Monday. The minimum transaction amount will be $55.4 million.

Ecuadors State Oil Company, Petroecuador, announced the concretion of a $3.8 million contract with the Consulting Company Wood Mackenzie (London, United Kingdom) for the design of a new plan that will increase the petroleum company efficiency.

Broilers Inaugurates a $20 Million Ethanol Plant
The agricultural company Jamaica Broilers Limited (St. Catherine, Jamaica) inaugurated a $20 million ethanol plant in Esquivel Port, according to the Jamaican National Press Service. The plant has the capacity to produce 60 million gallons of fuel grade ethanol annually. Apart from that, it can process sugar cane into fuel grade ethanol and was built with technical support from Brazil. While feedstock will be imported from Brazil to be used in the JB Ethanol plant, locally produced sugar cane feedstock can also be processed. The Jamaica Broilers Group of Companies is one of the most advanced and diversified agricultural producers.

Brazil Authorizes Preliminary Studies for Forth Nuclear Plant
Brazils Energy Policy National Council (CNPE) approved last week the preliminary studies to determine the best location for construction of the fourth nuclear plant in the country. The plant will have a 1-gigawatt installed capacity and will be built between 2015 and 2020. It hasnt been confirmed yet if the plant will be located in the northeast region, as most national press releases announced. The plant will be used as a complement of Angra III.
