Leading Chinese Power Producer Begins Commercial Operation of Two Plants

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The first 600 megawatts (MW) of the Yaomeng power plant Phase IV expansion project's supercritical coal-fired generating unit passed its 168-hour trial operation and went into commercial operation on October 26, 2007, in Pingdingshan City in central China's Henan Province, China Power International Development Limited announced. China Power is a subsidiary of China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) (Beijing) in Hong Kong.

The project is wholly invested by China Power, which planned to build two 600-MW supercritical coal-fired generating units with flue gas desulfurization facilities, as approved by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) at the end of 2005. Construction of the project officially began on February 18, 2006.

Just one day later, the first unit of the CPI Changzhou water conservation project passed its 72-hour trial operation and began commercial operation in Wuzhou City in southwestern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

In October 2003, Guangxi Changzhou Hydropower Development Company Limited (Wuzhou, Guangxi) was jointly established by CPI and Wuzhou Donghui State-owned Assets Operation Company Limited (Guangxi) to be in charge of constructing the Changzhou water-conservation project, which kicked off construction in December 2003.

The $986 million project will have 15 outer gate barrel type turbine-generating units with a total installed capacity of 630 MW and an annual average power output 3 billion kilowatt-hours.

CPI is one of the top five leading power producers in China. By the end of 2006, CPI had a total installed capacity of 37,800 MW and a total attributable installed capacity of 28,043.3 MW.
