Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--EDF Renewable Energy's (San Diego, California) Longhorn Windfarm in Texas is now providing power on a commercial basis, according to the company.
Located on 33,000 acres in Floyd and Briscoe counties, the 200-megawatt (MW) windfarm began producing power May 1. Renewable Energy Systems (Broomfield, Colorado), part of RES Group (Kings Langley, England), developed and built the project. A long-term, fixed-price energy purchase agreement is in place.
Longhorn Windfarm joins more than 1,000 MW of wind-generated power facilities in Texas that are owned by EDF Renewables. These include Spinning Spur (161 MW), Spinning Spur II (161 MW), Spinning Spur III (194 MW) Hereford Wind (200 MW), Bobcat Bluff (150 MW), and Bull Creek (180 MW).
Longhorn Windfarm has 100 Vestas V-100 wind turbines that rate 2 MW each. Vestas will provide operations and maintenance under a five-year warranty agreement. The project has a total investment value of $220 million.
EDF Renewables provides services ranging from site selection and development to long-term operations and maintenance servicing. The company has more than nine gigawatts of energy under contract.
