Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The completion ceremony of Longyuan Rudongs 100 MW Wind Power Project was held at Huangang Bund Windfarm, Rudong County in East Chinas Jiangsu province on June 18, 2007. The project is the first wind power project completed in Jiangsu during the eleventh five-year plan (2006-2010). The project is also the first megawatt level wind power project put into operation since the implementation of bidding on franchise rights for wind power development in China.
Longyuan Rudongs 100 MW Wind Power Project was jointly invested by Guodian Longyuan Power Group Company (Beijing, China), Nantong Tianshenggang Power Generation Company, Limited (Jiangsu, China) and Jiaguan International Limited, a subsidiary of Astrotech Communication Company, Limited for a total investment of $121 million.
The consortium led by Guodian Longyuan Power Group won the franchise right for the project as well as the follow-up 50 MW project through international bidding in 2004. Construction of the project officially started on October 18, 2005. The first wind power unit was put into operation on October 23, 2006. It took one and a half year for the project to be complete. Upon completion of the follow-up 50 MW project, annual power output for the Rudong Windfarm could reach 350 million kWh. Compared to a coal-fired power plant, the project could reduce CO2 emissions by 300,000 tons and SO2 emissions by 1,343 tons, every year. The project has obvious social and environmental benefits.
Guodian Longyuan Power Group Company, as a flagship in Chinas wind power sector and fully owned by China Guodian Corporation, owns about one-third of the wind power installation capacity in China. The company currently has established six wind power bases in Xinjiang, Gansu, Inner Mongolia, Hebei, Northeast China and Southeast China. The wind power installation capacity of the company is expected to surpass 1,000 MW in August this year and reach 5,000 MW in 2010.
