Magnolia BioPower to Begin Construction in Georgia in Early April

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Magnolia BioPower, LLC (Waynesville, Georgia) is preparing to begin construction in early April on the company's state-of-the-art combine wood-pellet manufacturing and electric-power generating plants in Waynesville, Georgia. The project is set to be completed in April 2011.

The $130 million facility, once in full production, will have the capacity to churn out nearly 1 million tons of wood-fuel pellets annually, and generate up to 30 megawatts (MW) of electricity. The plant will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The unused wood waste for pellet production will be used as fuel for the power plant. The pellet plant will require about 15 MW to operate, and the remaining 15 MW will be sold to the grid. This project will require about 60 employees to operate and maintain it. In turn, it will create approximately 100 industry-related jobs.

European markets will be the primary target for most of Magnolia BioPower's wood-pellet production, sending their product by truck to the Port of Brunswick for export. American markets will be a secondary target. European consumption of wood pellets for is mostly for commercial use in electric power plants, as a cleaner and more cost-effective alternative to coal. Sweden is the largest pellet consumer in Europe.

The complex is on an 80-acre site on Highway 82 West, in Waynesville.
