Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Brazilian Pulp & Paper company Nobrecel SA (Sao Paulo) plans to perform two minor maintenance shutdowns on two boilers in the Pindamonhangaba facility in Sao Paulo. The boilers will be taken offline in June and December 2010.
The biomass boiler, which began operating in 2001 and has a capacity to produce 60 tons of vapor per hour, will be taken offline in June. The other boiler, which uses black liquor as fuel, produces 30 tons of vapor per hour and was inaugurated in 2001. This boiler will come down for maintenance in December. Both boilers work at 45 bar pressure and 450 degrees Celsius.
According to plant officials, during the outage period, general inspection will be perfomed to the burners, heaters, fans and ducts, and all rust will be removed. The boilers' maintenance shutdowns are expected to last 10 days, but production will continue. Boilers are scheduled to come offline again in February 2011 for the plant's major maintenance shutdown, which will last approximately seven to 10 days.
The Pindamonhangaba pulp and paper mill started operating in 1978 and employs about 350 people. The mill annually produces 455,000 tons of pulp and 225,000 tons of paper. The facility is equipped with two steam turbines and two heat-recovery steam generators, which recover steam for the production of pulp and paper and provide power to the processing plant. The cogeneration plant has a total capacity of 12.8 megawatts.
Nobrecel produces and commercializes pulp and paper. At present, the company exports its products to several Latin American countries. Nobrecel has more than 550 direct and 1,000 indirect employees.
