Maximum Load of Northwest Power Grid Drops 4.89% in October 2008

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In October 2008, the maximum load of the Northwest China Power Grid reached 22,380 megawatts (MW), a drop of 4.89% compared with the same period last year, and the monthly average load rate reached 88.54%, a drop of 1.67 percentage points year over year, according to the monthly dispatching report released by Northwest China Grid Company Limited (Xi'an, China) on November 7, 2008.

The following maximum and average loads were reached for individual regions:

  • Shaanxi province
    • maximum load reached 7,680 MW, an increase of 1.59%
    • monthly average load rate reached 80.88%, a drop of 1.39 percentage points year over year
  • Gansu province
    • maximum load reached 6,900 MW, a drop of 5.74%
    • monthly average load rate reached 88.54%, a drop of 1.48 percentage points year over year
  • Qinghai province
    • the maximum load reached 3.43 million kilowatts, an increase of 6.19%
    • monthly average load rate reached 93.47%, a drop of 2.41 percentage points year over year
  • Ningxia Autonomous Region
    • the maximum load reached 4.96 million kilowatts, a drop of 13.74%
    • monthly average load rate reached 93.67%, a drop of 0.8 percentage point year over year.
In October 2008, Northwest China Power Grid maintained safe operation without any instability, crashes or large-area power-outage accidents in main system at the 330-kilovolt level or above. Relay protection devices in the main grid tripped 33 times, and the correct action rate reached 100%. In October, there were 12 incidents of faults or non-scheduled outages in 330-kilovolt transmission lines, a drop of 2% year over year. As of October 31, 2008, the safe-operation record of the grid reached 3,688 successive days.

In October 2008, the total power transmission from Northwest China Power Grid to the Central China Power Grid dropped 119 million kilowatt-hours (kWh), accounting for only 44.4% of the scheduled volume. In November 2008, the scheduled power transmission to the Central China Power Grid will be 260 million kWh, and the power output of power plants under direct dispatching is expected to be 3.08 billion kWh.
