Meijer's Distribution Center Expansion in Full Swing in Newport, Michigan

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Supercenter retailer Meijer Incorporated (Grand Rapids, Michigan) is well under way with construction of an expansion at the company's distribution center in Newport, Michigan. Expected to be completed this summer, the expansion will increase the size of the center to nearly 1.2 million square feet and add approximately 190 jobs.

The investment, valued at $27 million, involves the construction of 250,000 square feet of dry storage to increase distribution of dry grocery products to more than 45 regional Meijer stores. Rockford Construction Company Incorporated (Grand Rapids) is the general contractor for the project. J & K Mechanical Incorporated (Maybee, Michigan) was selected as the mechanical contractor.

In addition to the Newport distribution center, Meijer has other distribution facilities in the Great Lakes region, including distribution centers in Grand Rapids and Lansing in Michigan; Tipp City, Ohio; and Middlebury, Indiana. Meijer operates 185 supercenters throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky.
