Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Around the world, Industrial Info is tracking $1.4 trillion in active Metals & Minerals Industry projects. Prominent Metals & Minerals Industry sectors include mining, steel manufacturing, cement and aluminum. The mining sector accounts for the majority, about 64% by value, of the activity in the Metals & Minerals Industry. Both capital and maintenance projects are tracked. Capital projects include grassroot mines, steel mills, cement manufacturing plants, metal smelters and foundries, as well as expansion and modifications of existing plants. Maintenance projects include shutdowns and maintenance programs in excess of $1 million.
Industrial Info is monitoring about $890 billion in projects for above-ground and underground mining projects worldwide. In 2011, there has been a significant uptick in mining project activity, as well as mergers and acquisitions. Mining companies are, for the most part, cash rich because of high commodity prices and are looking to grow market share. There's a tremendous competition for available resources, which is driving investment in organic construction and acquisitions.
Industrial Info is expanding research capabilities in strategic geographies where project activity is hot. In recent years, Industrial Info has opened research offices in key markets such as China, India, Southeast Asia, Australia and South America, in order to take advantage of local language skills and really dig deep into regional project activity.
One example of Industrial Info's growth in coverage is the coal mining sector, which has increased significantly in recent years. Industrial Info is currently tracking 449 coal mining projects totaling $141 billion around the globe. In late 2008, Industrial Info was tracking 227 coal mining projects totaling $36 billion.
In order to present equipment and service providers a more comprehensive picture of project spending opportunities in the mining sector, Industrial Info has released the Mining Tracker, featuring detailed mining project requirements for mining equipment, material handling, comminution (crushing and milling) equipment and processing equipment, to name a few.
