Midwest Market Region Eyes $2.4 Billion in Food and Beverage Project Expenditures for 2017

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is currently tracking more than $2.4 billion in project expenditures within the Food and Beverage Industry at sites in the Midwest market region that have a construction start date in 2017. The Midwest market region comprises Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota. There are more than 236 projects currently slated for the year and the total investment value (TIV) of each project ranges from $500,000 to as high as $300 million. As the year progresses, more projects will be added and a small percentage of the projects will either be delayed or cancelled.
Grassroot construction projects account for $849 million in expenditures and will result in 23 new plants.
Nearly 33% of the current portfolio's total value is earmarked for Iowa.

One of the largest projects on record for the year calls for the construction of a $240 million pork processing plant in Iowa. Construction is scheduled to commence this summer, and startup of the facility is targeted for spring 2019. A few examples of project spending plans across the region include:
- a $100 million cheese processing plant
- a $100 million grassroot soybean processing facility
- a $50 million meat packing plant expansion
- a $30 million potato processing plant freezer expansion
- a $15 million bakery facility expansion
