MISO Releases 2017 Transmission Expansion Plan
The Midcontinent Independent System Operator released its 2017 Transmission Expansion Plan.
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO) (Carmel, Indiana) recently released its 2017 Transmission Expansion Plan (MTEP 17) detailing new transmission projects scheduled to be constructed in the next seven years in the 15 states that MISO serves. The MTEP 17 projects, valued at $2.7 billion, will address reliability issues, transmission congestion, seasonal transmission demand fluctuations and the integration of renewable energy.
MISO controls electric transmission in all or parts of the states of Wisconsin, Michigan, North and South Dakota, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana, Texas, Montana, Kentucky and Mississippi.

- The $2.5 billion Plains & Eastern HVDC Clean Line project proposed by Clean Line Energy Partners LLC (Houston, Texas) comprises a 212-mile transmission line that will traverse Oklahoma, Arkansas and Tennessee to move wind-generated energy from Texas and Oklahoma to eastern electric markets. - The $1.5 billion Grain Belt Express HVDC transmission line, also proposed by Clean Line Energy Partners LLC, will run 200 miles across Kansas, Missouri and Illinois. It will move wind-generated energy from Kansas to eastern markets. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
- The $1.1 billion Illinois Rivers transmission project by Ameren Corporation (NYSE:AEE) (St Louis, Missouri), currently under construction, is a 330-mile alternating current transmission line across Illinois, Missouri and Indiana. It will address grid reliability improvements, the growing demand for electricity in the region, market efficiencies and access to wind generation.
