More than 11,000 Much-Needed U.S. Jobs to be Created in Third Quarter

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The recession has wreaked havoc on the jobs market across the United States. During the past two years, the jobless rate rose on a monthly basis as hundreds of thousands of jobs disappeared across the country. Only in recent months has the hemorrhaging slowed as industry has begun to hire again. Slow spending during this time has led to a slow recovery of jobs as companies have been in "wait and see" mode before committing to larger projects that would create a large numbers of jobs. A look ahead at the third quarter shows that just more than 150 new plants are scheduled to become operational during the months of July, August and September in the U.S., creating more than 11,300 much-needed jobs.

The Southwest region will host the largest number of new jobs during the coming quarter at 2,506, in the form of 22 new plants beginning operations. The Southeast region will garner the second-largest jobs gains during the quarter at 2,026, with 18 new plants beginning operations, while the Rocky Mountains will see the third-largest jobs gains, with its 16 new plants and 1,528 jobs. Rounding out the top five regions will be the Northeast and New England, with 1,282 new jobs (19 plants) and 1,109 new jobs (11 plants), respectively. The region with the largest number of new plants for the quarter is the Great Lakes, with 23 plants.

As far as who exactly will be operating these new plants, the Industrial Manufacturing Industry takes the forefront with 25 new plants opening their doors, creating 3,879 jobs. This is a major step forward for the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, which has suffered greatly during the recession, not only with the highest job losses among all industries, but with the large number of plant closures that have occurred. The Pharmaceuticals and Biotech Industry will see the second-largest jobs gain with 30 new plants beginning operations, creating 3,720 jobs during the quarter. The Food and Beverage Industry will open the largest number of plants during the third quarter, 31, but will create only 1,433 jobs, while the Metals and Minerals Industry will contribute 1,165 jobs in the form of 11 new plants before there is a major drop-off in number of jobs created per industry.

The overall economic situation across the U.S. has gradually improved almost monthly, which has led to the plant openings during the coming quarter. Despite slower-than-normal spending, companies have continued to manage to plan, develop and construct enough plants to make a difference. As spending increases and the economy continues its recovery, the U.S. can expect the plant and job numbers to grow on a quarterly basis.

As long as the overall economic situation continues to improve we can expect the new plant and new jobs numbers to rise. If the economy suffers a significant setback, the U.S. probably will see this trend reverse itself; but a reversal, much like recovery, takes some time to develop. The plants and jobs growth will reflect spending from as much as two or three years ago, depending on how large and lengthy the construction process was for each individual plant. With spending expected to top $53 billion in the U.S. during the third quarter, it appears as though the country will be banking enough new plant-related projects to keep the U.S. going on the right track for some time to come.
