Murco's Milford Haven Refinery Scheduled for 2010 Overhaul

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 108,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Milford Haven Refinery operated by Murco Petroleum Limited (St. Albans, Hertfordshire, England) and owned by Murphy Oil Corporation (NYSE:MUR) (El Dorado, Arkansas) will undergo a maintenance overhaul in the first quarter of 2010.

The refinery is divided into the North and South areas. The planned turnaround will affect both and is expected to start in March; units are expected to remain offline for a 60-day period. The overhaul will affect the 108,000-BBL/d Crude unit, the 3,775-BBL/d Crude VRU, the 30,190-BBL/d HDS 1900, the 24,910-BBL/d HDS 0300, the 11,000-BBL/d Reformer 0200 and the 5,500-BBL/d Reformer 1200, among others.

Milford Haven, which is located in Pembrokeshire, Wales, started operations in 1973 under Amoco's ownership. Murco joined as a partner in 1981. Elf acquired Amoco's interest in 1990, and Elf was acquired by Total in 2000. The refinery was operated by Total S.A. (NYSE:TOT) (Paris, France) as a 70:30 joint venture with Murco until late 2007, when Murco acquired the majority interest.
