Written by Richard Finlayson, Senior International Editor for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--State-owned Nampower (Windhoek, Namibia) has launched the pre-qualification tender process for the strategic equity investor (SEI) for the natural gas-fired, combined-cycle Kudu power project, which is sited near Oranjemund on the South Atlantic coast and the border with South Africa.
The power plant will use a natural gas feed from the Kudu Gas Field, which is 170 kilometers offshore. The plant will be connected to the Namibian and South African power grids. Power from the plant will be purchased under long-term power purchase agreements by Nampower for local and regional use.
Nampower signed a project development agreement (PDA) with the Kudu Gas Field upstream developers at the beginning of March this year, which facilitated a timeline to achieve financial closure within the next 12 months.
The selection of the project's SEI will be under a competitive bid process. Transaction advisers are Ernst & Young, Strategic International Advisory (SIAL), Lahmeyer International, DLA Piper and ESB International.
Closing date for the pre-qualification tender is Friday, August 9, 2013.
