NDRC Approves Sichuan Furong Group's 1.8 Million-Metric-Ton Xinwei Coal Mine

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Sichuan Furong Group Company Limited's (Yibin, Sichuan) 1.8 million-metric-ton Xinwei coal mine recently received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top planner in China, the Municipal Government of Yibin disclosed on November 3, 2010.

Xinwei coal mine, which is in Junlian County of Yibin City, is the largest coal mine in southern Sichuan province. It will be built with two mining shafts and a designed annual production capacity of 1.8 million metric tons. Together with the associated coal preparation plant and special railway, total estimated investment in the project will be about $224 million, according to the Development and Reform Commission of Yibin City.

The project will be developed and operated by Sichuan Furong Group, a state-owned enterprise established in 2003 and based on the former Furong Mining Bureau, and now a subsidiary of Sichuan Coal Industry Group (Chengdu, Sichuan). Furong Group currently has four pairs of mining shafts, with a designed production capacity of 3.45 million metric tons per year, and is the largest anthracite producer in Sichuan at present.

Yibin is a city rich in coal resources with an anthracite reserve up to 3.58 billion metric tons, accounting for one-fourth of the total coal reserves in Sichuan. The city also is an important part of the Yunnan-Guizhou coal base, one of the 13 largest coal bases in China.

With the construction of the project, Yibin will greatly improve its local conversion and utilization rate of coal resources, which is favorable for resource conservation and environmental protection, and will further promote the development of thermal power and a coal-based chemical industry in Yibin.
