Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--New York state is seeing a flurry of project activity within its borders. Industrial Info is tracking more than $12.4 billion worth of industrial projects under construction in the state. The projects cover a range of industries, although the Industrial Manufacturing and Power industries, together accounting for more than $7 billion worth of projects, lead in terms of project value.

New York has set some of the loftiest renewable energy goals in the nation, with its Clean Energy Standard aiming for 70% of all electricity used in the state to come from renewable sources by 2030. New York's project activity shows several renewable energy plants under construction for both wind and solar power. Solar power projects include NextEra Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) Trelina solar energy center in Waterloo. The facility will use solar panels manufactured by First Solar Incorporated (NASDAQ:FSLR) (Tempe, Arizona) to achieve a nameplate generating capacity of 80 megawatts (MW). Construction kicked off late last year, and engineering, procurement and construction contractor Kiewit Corporation (Lenexa, Kansas) is expected to wrap up the project this summer. Windfarms under construction in the state include Northland Power Incorporated's (Toronto, Ontario) grassroot Bluestone Windfarm. The project kicked off in 2021 and entails erecting 26 Vestas turbines, each rated at 4.8 MW, to achieve a nameplate generating capacity of 125 MW. Construction is expected to be completed in the near future. Subscribers can click here for the full report.

Related, but falling within the Industrial Manufacturing sector, is a grassroot solar panel manufacturing complex in Dexter, in the north of the state near Lake Ontario. Construction on Convalt Energy's (Watertown, New York) new plant kicked off late last year and entails constructing a facility with 215,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 65,000 square feet of warehouse space, as well as space for research and development and offices. The project is expected to be completed by the end of this year. Subscribers to Industrial Info's GMI Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can click here for more information.

New York's Industrial Manufacturing sector also is peppered with projects from Amazon.com Incorporated (NASDAQ:AMZN) (Seattle, Washington). Among the largest of these is a grassroot fulfillment center in Gates, on the western outskirts of Rochester. The 2.6 million-square-foot facility will aid in the company's regional distribution operations. Construction kicked off in 2021 and is expected to be completed this summer. Subscribers can click here for more details.

Other industrial manufacturing projects include the expansion of a data center used for Bitcoin mining. The facility is located at a former Alcoa Corporation (NYSE:AA) (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) site. The expansion will double the site's power capacity from 120 MW to 240 MW and also will include the installation of additional supporting equipment. Construction is expected to be completed early next year. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.

Rounding out the top three industries in the state by overall project value is the Pharmaceutical-Biotech Industry, featuring more than $2.4 billion of projects under construction. In New York City, the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation (New York, New York) is underway with construction of a public health laboratory at a brownfield site in Harlem. The project, which kicked off last summer, entails demolishing three existing buildings and constructing a new 10-story, 240,000-square-foot building to provide testing and analysis services for microbiology, environmental sciences, toxicology, virology and more. Skanska (Stockholm, Sweden) is providing construction management services on the project, which is expected to be completed in early 2026.
