Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--While solar power installations dominate renewable energy activity in the U.S., wind power follows closely behind. Industrial Info is tracking more than 20 windfarm projects presently under construction in the U.S. Texas and New York state lead in the number of these under-construction projects, with five and four underway, respectively.
The value of Texas' windfarms under construction tops $1.2 billion. Among the largest of these is NextEra Energy Incorporated's (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) Inertia Windfarm near Haskell, between Dallas and Lubbock. Construction kicked off a couple of months ago and entails erecting 108 turbines with capacities of 2.52 megawatts (MW) and 2.82 megawatts to achieve nameplate generation of more than 300 MW. M.A. Mortenson Company (Minneapolis, Minnesota) is providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services on the project, which is expected to be completed in summer 2024. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can click here for the full report.
JERA Company Incorporated (Tokyo, Japan) is underway with a similarly sized project in San Perlita, Texas, with Wanzek Construction (Fargo, North Dakota) providing EPC services. This windfarm will use 67 turbines, each rated at 4.5 MW, to reach nameplate generation of 301.5 MW. Construction kicked early last year, and the project is expected to be completed this summer. Subscribers can click here for more details.
On track for completion by the end of this year is the Century Oak wind project near Baird, Texas, which is being developed by ENGIE SA (La Defense, France). Construction on the 150-MW windfarm kicked off last year and involves erecting 46 General Electric (NYSE:GE) (Boston, Massachusetts) wind turbines. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the project report.
In comparison with Texas, New York's windfarms presently under construction are smaller in size, with the largest topping out at 125 MW. This windfarm, the Bluestone Windfarm, is being developed by SaskPower (Regina, Canada) in Windsor, near the Pennsylvania border. The facility will feature 26 4.8-MW turbines to provide nameplate generation of 125 MW. The project is nearing completion. Subscribers can click for more details.
SaskPower also is developing a project in New Dayton, New York, about 45 miles south of Buffalo. This windfarm will feature 25 3.45-MW turbines to achieve nameplate generation of about 86.25 MW. Construction kicked off in early 2022, and the project is expected to be completed this summer. Subscribers can click here for the full report.
