Power Companies Urge Biden to Implement Policies Cutting Emissions 80% by 2030 - A group of U.S. electricity companies wrote to President Joe Biden this week saying it will work with his administration and Congress to design a broad set of policies to reach a near-term goal of slashing the sector's carbon emissions by 2030. Washington should implement policies, including a clean energy standard, or CES, to ensure the electricity industry cuts carbon emissions 80% below 2005 levels by 2030, the group of 13 power interests, including generators Exelon Corporation (NASDAQ:EXC) and Public Service Enterprise Group (NYSE:PEG), said in a letter to Biden. NextDecade to Certify Natural Gas Emissions at Rio Grande LNG Plant - U.S. liquefied natural gas (LNG) developer NextDecade Corporation (NASDAQ:NEXT) said Monday it joined with Project Canary to certify the greenhouse gas intensity of LNG to be sold from its proposed Rio Grande export plant in Texas. Rio Grande is one of 13 North American LNG projects planning to make final investment decisions in 2021, most of which were carried over from 2020 when just one started construction. Project Canary, which provides data on responsibly sourced gas, will certify emissions from the gas wellhead to Rio Grande. (Project 300186992) (Reuters)
