Nordex Provides 36 Wind Turbines for Turkish Windfarm

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Turkish Energy company Bilgin Enerji (Ankara) plans to construct a 90-megawatt (MW) windfarm in the western Turkish county of Izmir, close to the city of Bergama. German wind turbine manufacturer Nordex AG (ETR:NDX1) (Norderstedt, Germany) has received an order for the supply of 36 N90 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2.5 MW, for installation at the windfarm. The Turkish company ordered the turbines under the terms of a master contract for a total volume of 210 MW, which both companies signed in spring 2008.

Construction of the Bergama Windfarm is planned to begin in November 2009, and the first turbines are expected to be operational by the second quarter of 2010. The 36 turbines will be installed at heights of up to 650 meters, where high wind speeds with an average of about 9 meters per second prevail. Once completed, the new windfarm will be able to supply 150,000 Turkish households with electricity.

Bergama is the third project on which Bilgin and Nordex are working together. The Mazi-III windfarm (22.5 MW), consisting of nine N90/2500 turbines, is currently under construction on the peninsula of Cesme. Yuntdag Aliaga windfarm (90 MW) will be equipped with 36 N90/2500 turbines and will start operations in September 2010.
