North Central Texas Buffalo Gap Windfarm Generation Already Sold

Seawest Windpower Incorporated (San Diego, California), a wholly-owned subsidiary of global power company, AES Corporation (Arlington, Virginia) has sold all the electrical output of its 120-megawatt (MW) Buffalo Gap Windfarm near Abilene, in Taylor County, Texas. The power will be sold to WTU Retail Energy, a division of Direct Energy (Houston, Texas), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Centrica PLC (LSE:CNA), (Windsor, Berkshire England).
Seawest Windpower selected D.H. Blattner and Sons Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) to be in charge of engineering, procurement, and construction (E+P+C) for the Buffalo Gap Windfarm. The sixty-seven wind turbine/generators selected for installation are the 1.8 MW Vestas model V80. D.H. Blattner commenced construction for the $165 million, 120 MW windfarm in May 2005. Seawest expects D.H. Blattner and Vestas to complete commissioning and have the Buffalo Gap Windfarm in commercial operation by December 31, 2005, when they are to start power delivery to WTU Retail Energy.
