Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The 440-megawatt (MW), coal-fired Unit 2 at Leland Olds Power Station, which is located in Stanton, North Dakota, will shut down Friday evening. Sources reported issues with boiler and turbine equipment. The plant is owned by Basin Electric Power Cooperative (Bismarck, North Dakota).
Unit 2 will be taken offline between 11 pm and 11:30 pm to repair a boiler cyclone leak and to remove clinkers from the boiler due to ash build up. Officials also expect to address a solenoid valve leakage and a control valve issue.
Officials said they already have performed a preliminary analysis to determine what repairs are needed. They expect the unit to return to service Monday morning, if there are no delays.
Leland Olds has two generating units with a total capacity of 656 MW when at full load. Unit 1 will remain in service at full load.
