Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Cooperative-owned Northeast Biodiesel Co-op (Greenfield, Massachusetts), along with majority owner Co-op Power (Greenfield), is seeking funds to begin the final engineering drawings for the construction of the company's biodiesel production facility in Greenfield.
The project has been under development since 2007, and Northeast Biodiesel held an official groundbreaking in August 2010. But since that time, the 6,600-square-foot production building has not been erected and no equipment has been delivered to the site. The 26.5-acre plot is in the Greenfield Industrial Park and is expected to cost $2.5 million to construct.
When the financing for the engineering is secured, the company plans to proceed with construction and have the plant operating by 2012.
Northeast Biodiesel ordered a skid-mounted, single-processing train from Green Fuels America (Sparks, Nevada), but the unit has yet to be delivered. The Greenfuels Fuelmatic processing unit has the capacity of producing 5,000 gallons per day of biodiesel from a variety of oil feedstocks, including used cooking oil.
The Greenfield plant is expected to produce 1.75 million gallons per year of biodiesel, and it could add a second 5,000-gallon-per-day train by 2012 if market conditions improve. The fuel will go mainly into transportation and fuel-oil markets.
