Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Perth, Australia)--Nova Energy (Whakatane, New Zealand), a subsidiary of the Todd Corporation (Wellington, New Zealand), operates the 25-megawatt (MW) Aniwhenua hydropower station, which is near the Rangitaiki River in Kawerau, Whakatane, New Zealand. The power station was built by Bay of Plenty Energy (BOP) in 1979, and features two identical hydraulic turbines that generate a total 25 MW of electricity.

The Aniwhenua plant has a routine annual maintenance scheduled for two of its units each year. Nova Energy recently completed a scheduled outage on Unit 1, which underwent three weeks of maintenance, including routine inspections and repairs to the unit.

Nova Energy is making plans for a six-week outage on Unit 2, which will include a governor upgrade in addition to the regular repairs and inspections on the unit.

In November 2012, Bay of Plenty Energy was acquired by Nova Energy, which is a part of The Todd Corporation (Wellington, New Zealand), one of New Zealand's leading gas explorers and producers. The acquisition involved all of the BOP's assets, including the Aniwhenua plant.

Todd operates several power plants across New Zealand that use different fuel sources. In addition to Aniwhenua, Todd runs a 38-MW Mangahao power station in Mangaore, which is equipped with five hydro turbines of differing capacities. Unit 1 is the largest turbine, producing 26 MW, and all other units contribute to the remaining 12 MW.
