Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--India's state-owned power producer NTPC Limited (BSE:532555) (New Delhi, India) is scouting for a vendor to supply and execute Cooling Water (CW) System to its 500-megawatt (MW) Vindhyachal Super Thermal Power Expansion Project in Madhya Pradesh. NTPC has floated a global tender for this purpose. The power major intends to finance this package through both external commercial borrowings and the company's internal resources.
According to NTPC, the scope for the contract will involve the design, manufacturing, engineering, inspection and testing of the supplier's work; and the packing, transportation to site, handling, storage, erection, supervision, pre-commissioning-testing, commissioning and performance testing of the CW system package, along with a supply of spares. The major equipment to be supplied includes three CW pumps with associated motors of 30,000 cubic meters per hour (cum/hr) of discharge, operating at 375 rpm; three 2,200-millimeter hydraulically actuated butterfly valves; air-release valves; a Gantry crane of 45 tons capacity; seal water pumps; drainage pumps and lubrication water system.
As per the pre-conditions laid down by NTPC, to qualify for this contract, a bidder must have designed, manufactured, supplied, erected and commissioned or supervised erection ad commissioning of at least two vertical wet pit pumps, concrete volute pumps or metallic volute pumps with concrete encasement of capacity 30,000 cum/hr which should have been in successful operation for at least two years prior to the date of Techno-Commercial bid opening.
Additionally, in terms of financial standards, the average annual turnover of the bidder in the preceding three financial years should not be less than $1.4 million, and net worth should not be less than 25% of the paid-up share capital. The bid documents will be available for sale until August 16, 2013. The last date of submission of bids for this package is September 6, 2013. The power project will be entitled to "deemed export benefits" on the purchase of goods and equipment, under India's mega-power policy.
The power plant is located on North West bank of Rihand Reservoir at Vindhya Nagar in Singrauli district of Madhya Pradesh. The plant currently has an installed generation capacity of 3,760 MW through 11 units. The first 210-MW unit of the plant was commissioned in October 1987, followed by the commissioning of five more 210 MW units until February 1991. Apart from the 210-MW units the plant has five operational units of 500 MW each.
