Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--India's state-run power company NTPC Limited (BSE:532555) (New Delhi, India) is set to award the contracts for the renovation and retrofit packages of electrostatic precipitators (ESP) for five thermal power stations, which are being taken up by the government of India for renovation and modernization.
NTPC is currently evaluating the bids received for the packages, and the award contract is expected by the end of March 2013. Bid documents for the ESP packages of Rihand, Vindhyachal, Unchahar, Talcher and Singrauli power stations were released in November 2012.
According to NTPC, the renovation and retrofit would be done either by enhancing the collection area of the existing ESPs by filling up the dummy field and providing additional fields in the series, or renovating the ESPs through redesign and re-engineering work, like increasing the height and spacing of collecting electrodes and filling up the existing dummy field.
The scope of work would involve engineering a complete microprocessor-based control system for electrical work, and services such as dismantling, repair, overhaul and retrofitting of various other components, systems, electrical insulators, rapping systems, discharge electrodes, collecting plates etc. It also would involve the renovation of power supply and gas distribution systems with associated controls, including the refurbishment of hoppers and a dust-handling system, heaters and purge air systems, and thermal insulators.
As per the pre-conditions laid down by NTPC to qualify for this package, the bidder should have designed, supplied, erected/supervised erection and commissioned/supervised commissioning of an ESP of the type offered (either rigid discharge framework electrostatic precipitator or moving electrode plate type design ESP (MEEP)) that has a design efficiency that is not less than 99%; and it must operate in conjunction with a pulverized coal-fired steam generating unit that is rated for a minimum of a 200-megawatt (MW) unit size or a minimum 600 tons-per-hour steaming capacity, which is a successful operation in at least one installation for a period that is not less than one year prior to the date of the techno-commercial bid opening.
