NTPC Seeks Control & Instrumentation Vendor for Lara Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)-- India's state-owned power producer, NTPC Limited (BSE:532555) (New Delhi, India), is scouting for a vendor for control & instrumentation (C&I) and instrumentation cable packages for its 1,600-megawatt (MW) Lara-I project. Due to be developed in two phases of 1,600 MW and 2,400 MW in the Raigarh district of Chattisgarh, the power station in the Lara village will have five supercritical, technology-based units of 800 MW each. NTPC has floated a global tender for the C&I and cables package.

According to NTPC, the station C&I and instrumentation cable package is intended for the procurement of the equipment and systems for the control, protection, operation and monitoring of the total plant, along with the associated subsystems. The control system, comprising a distributed digital control monitoring & information system (DDCMIS), envisages control and operation of modulating controls for the steam generator, feedwater and condensate cycle; binary control of auxiliaries for boiler and turbine generators; controls for the electrical breaker, including synchronization circuits, coal and ash-handling plants; water systems; and air conditioning and ventilation systems.

The bidding process would be completed in two stages: the stage I Techno Commercial bid, and the stage II Price bid. Bid documents would be available for sale until April 15, 2013. The last date for submission of a stage I bid is May 16, 2013. The date of receipt and opening of the stage II bid shall be intimated separately after the opening of a stage I bid, according to an NTPC statement.

Coal requirements for the Lara-I project have been estimated at 7 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) at 90% plant load factor (PLF), considering average Gross Calorific Value of 4,200 kcal per kilogram. The coal requirement will be met from the Talaipalli coal block in the Mand-Raigarh coalfields area in Chhattisgarh. About 2,375 acres of land would be required to set up the first stage of the project. The government of Chhattisgarh has approved drawl of 45 MCM per annum from the Saradih barrage on the Mahanadi River to meet the water requirements for the project.
