Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info is tracking $3.83 billion in projects in Ohio that are scheduled to kick off from October through December of this year. The Oil & Gas Pipelines Industry, with 29 projects valued at $1.66 billion, leads the state in investment value, followed by the Industrial Manufacturing Industry, with $960 million in planned fourth-quarter project starts.
Click on image at right for a breakdown by industry of planned fourth-quarter project starts in Ohio.Among the largest projects planned to start construction during the quarter is Fiat Chrysler Automotive's (Auburn Hills, Michigan) expansion of the North Liberty Automotive Assembly Complex in Toledo. The project involves retooling production equipment to convert manufacturing of Jeep Cherokees to making the next-generation Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler pickup. The $700 million project is expected to kick off by the end of the year and be completed in the fall of 2017.
The largest pipeline project planned for kick-off is Enterprise Transfer Partners LP's (NYSE:ETP) (Dallas, Texas) grassroot Rover natural gas pipeline. The 710-mile pipeline will gather natural gas from processing plants in West Virginia, eastern Ohio and western Pennsylvania for delivery to the Midwest Hub near Defiance, Ohio. Approximately 409 miles of 42-inch pipeline will be laid in Ohio. The $4.2 billion project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2017. Several compressor stations along the pipeline route help add to the overall value of pipeline project starts within the state.
As with other states, the Power Industry makes a strong showing for planned project starts. Among the top projects in this sector are two wind power projects planned to kick off during the quarter. Starwood Energy Group's 100.8-megawatt (MW), grassroot Northwest Ohio Wind Energy Farm project is planned to kick off construction by the end of the year near Grover Hill, Ohio. The project will include the construction of 48 Gamesa wind turbine-generators, each with a capacity of 2.1 MW, along with balance-of-plant equipment. The $202 million project is planned to take about 10 months to complete.
RES Americas' (Broomfield, Colorado) Hog Creek Windfarm near Dunkirk, Ohio, is planned for kick-off this fall, with completion in late summer 2017. The grassroot, 66.7-MW project will use 30 Vestas V100 turbine-generators. Several wind energy developers are hoping to begin construction of projects before the end of 2016 in order to receive higher earnings from the federal government's production tax credit (PTC) for wind projects, which will begin stepping down by 20% for construction beginning in 2017.
