Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--Origin Energy Limited (New South Wales, Australia) finalized plans to perform a major maintenance outage at the 630-megawatt (MW) Darling Downs coal-bed methane power station (DDPS), which is located in Queensland, Australia. Maintenance will be performed on the 120-MW, combined-cycle gas turbine unit, which is attached to a heat recovery steam generator (HRSG). Maintenance also will be on the 270-MW Steam Turbine unit.

DDPS was constructed from 2008 to 2010 in a combined-cycle configuration, with three 120-MW gas turbines attached to HRSGs that supply waste heat to run the 270-MW steam turbine generator. All four turbines are supplied by GE Energy (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut), while the HRSG is supplied by NEM Group (Leiden, Netherlands).
The HRSG is a subcritical boiler with supplementary firing and duct burners. The power plant is the largest combined-cycle power station, located in the Darling Downs region of southwestern Queensland.
The maintenance outage will be conducted in September on one of the three gas turbines and the steam turbine unit, which will run over a period of three weeks.
The outage will be performed by GE Australia, which is the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of the turbine and the long-term maintenance contractor for the plant's maintenance. In May 2014, Darling Downs completed a 26-day outage on the gas turbines in units 2 and 3 and the steam turbine.
According to the plant officials, Origin Energy will not perform any major maintenance at the power station after the September outage for at least 24 months. However, the plant will undergo regular maintenance outages to keep the units running, until the next major maintenance is conducted at the plant. The in-house maintenance team will undertake most of the regular maintenance that will occur over the next 24 months.
