Pacific Gas & Electric Begins Construction of Power Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Pacific Gas & Electric Company, a subsidiary of PG&E Corporation (NYSE:PCG) (San Francisco, California), has started construction of its $673 million, 660-megawatt (MW) Colusa County power project located in Maxwell, California.

Site preparation for the project started earlier this month, and full commercial operation is scheduled for the fall of 2010. The project will consist of constructing a 2-on-1 combined-cycle dry-cooled power facility that will feature two 172-MW natural-gas-fired GE Energy MS7001FA combustion turbine generators, equipped with two duct-fired Nooter Erickson heat recovery steam generators and a 318-MW D-11 reheating steam turbine, also manufactured by GE Energy (Atlanta, Georgia), a subsidiary of General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) (Fairfield, Connecticut). The project will also feature state-of-the art emissions technology such as selective catalytic reduction in order to reduce nitrogen-oxide emissions.

The Glenn-Colusa Irrigation District will provide the water needs for the new facility through a newly constructed 2,700-foot water pipeline running from the Tehama-Colusa Canal. Once operational the project will be connected to the grid through the 230-kilovolt Cottonwood to Vaca-Dixon transmission corridor just east of the project.

Gemma Power Systems (Glastonbury, Connecticut) will provide the turnkey engineering, procurement, and construction services for the project.
