Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Site preparation began this summer on a 758-megawatt (MW), Phase II expansion at the Temple Energy Center Power Plant in Temple, Texas, which is in Bell County. Panda Temple LLC (Dallas, Texas), a subsidiary of The Panda Group, is the developer and owner of the natural gas-fired power plant.
Phase I began in the summer of 2012, with the construction of two 208-MW Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) combustion turbines, with two duct-fired NEM Benson DrumPlus heat recovery steam generators and a 342-MW Siemens steam turbine. Project completion is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2014.
Phase II also will utilize Siemens equipment. Completion is expected by the summer of 2015.
Bechtel Power Corporation (Frederick, Maryland) and Siemens are part of a consortium. Siemens is providing the equipment and technology, such as the power package, which includes waste heat recovery boilers. Bechtel is providing engineering, procurement and construction services.
The Temple facility, which is on a 250-acre site, will be one of the cleanest power plants in the nation. The state-of-the-art combustion turbines will be equipped with NOx reduction equipment and a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. The 24- to 36-month construction period will add local employment, hotels, restaurants and other business.
