Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Pennsylvania is 15th-highest wind power producer in the nation and is 22nd for potential wind generation capacity. Recently, the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection announced the availability of $16 million dollars through the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority to help develop clean-energy projects that will help to create jobs and meet Pennsylvania's future energy needs.
Currently, Industrial Info is tracking 856 megawatts (MW) of windfarms being planned for development in Pennsylvania. The windfarms have a total investment value of more than $1.5 billion dollars.
Two of the 14 windfarms proposed in the state are the 100-MW North Potter windfarm near Galeton, which is being developed by AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) (Arlington, Virginia), and the 150-MW Penn Forest windfarm near Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, being developed by Delsea Energy LLC (Toms River, New Jersey).
Gamesa Corporation (Vitoria, Spain) has a wind turbine manufacturing facility in Cambria County. The company recently was granted $22.8 million in grants thanks to the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act to help avoid layoffs and continue manufacturing wind turbines for the state and the nation.
