Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Peru's Olmos hydro project (PEOT), part of the regional government of the Lambayeque department of Peru, has extended the bidding timetable to develop the Olmos hydropower component in northern Peru.
The project's studies date back to 1981 and need to be adjusted and updated. PEOT will accept prequalification documents through December 4 and expects to announce prequalifiers by December 18. The contract is projected to be awarded on February 8, 2010.
Construction is slated to begin by the end of 2010 or beginning of 2011, project authorities told Industrial Info.
The project's scope involves the construction of two hydropower plants with individual capacities of between 60 and 65 megawatts (MW) each. The total investment value (TIV) of the first plant is estimated to be $80 million, the second plant has a TIV of $95 million.
The four groups that have prequalified so far for the power concession are Constructora Andrade Gutierrez, Consorcio Olmos, Constructora Queiroz Galvao and Consorcio Hidrolmos.
The project's first component works are under way. These include the dam and tunnel to transport water from the Huancabamba River in the Amazon basin to Lambayeque. These works are expected to be completed by 2010.
Brazil's Odebrecht (Rio de Janeiro) holds a 20-year concession for the water-transport component.
The plants will be located about 920 kilometers north of Lima in the departments of Lambayeque and Cajamarca.
