Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Within the Houston Ship Channel and vicinity geographic area, Industrialinfo.com is tracking 103 projects worth approximately $2.1 billion in total investment value (TIV). The majority of these projects are scheduled to begin construction in 2005 and 2006. The petrochemical industries of Petroleum Refining (HPI), Chemical Processing (CPI), and Oil & Gas Terminals dominate industrial spending in the area, with about 66% of the TIV planned from 86 projects.
The Petroleum Refining Industry leads all industries in Houston Ship Channel area project spending, commanding about 37.5%, or $793 million TIV. This is quite impressive when you take into account the fact that this money is being planned at only eleven refineries on the ship channel. Lyondell-CITGO Refining LP (Houston, Texas) is looking at fourteen projects worth $383.5 million. Other big refining industry spenders on the Houston Ship Channel include Valero Energy Corporation (NYSE:VLO)(San Antonio, Texas), which has eight projects worth $250 million and Shell Oil Company (Houston, Texas), a subsidiary of Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies (NYSE:RD), with $95 million in TIV.
With 43 projects, the Chemical Processing Industry actually has more projects than Petroleum Refining Industry, but less TIV, with $569.5 million. One of the larger Chemical Processing Industry projects is a $150 million unit addition at Eval Company of America, a subsidiary of Kuraray Company Limited.
