The company is constructing a 100,000 square foot building addition, which began construction in February 2005. PPG will install a new magnetic sputtering vacuum deposition system that applies thin transparent coatings to glass. The new production line will meet customer demand for low emission glass and installation is scheduled to begin September 2005.
PPG Industries was founded in 1883 as the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company. The company's first plant, at Creighton, Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, was the first commercially successful plate glass factory in the United States. PPG Industries Incorporated is a global supplier of coatings, glass, fiber glass and chemicals. The company has about 50 production facilities in the United States and about 120 worldwide, including subsidiaries, joint ventures and equity affiliates. The company employs about 34,100 people worldwide.
