Preliminary Engineering of China Guodian's 700-Megawatt Cogeneration Project Passes Examination

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The examination meeting regarding the preliminary engineering of China Guodian Corporation's (Beijing) 700-megawatt (MW) Karamay cogeneration project was held in Urumqi, Xinjiang, September 26-29. Mr. Keli Bi, the vice president of Guodian Xinjiang Power Company Limited (Urumqi) and leaders from China Guodian Corporation, the Electric Power Planning & Engineering Institute, related departments of Xinjiang Autonomous Region and Karamay City, attended the meeting.

An expert panel heard the presentation regarding the preliminary engineering report for the cogeneration project, which was prepared by North China Power Engineering Company Limited (Beijing), a regional subsidiary of China Power Engineering Consulting Group Corporation (Beijing).

The panel reviewed and discussed the report in detail. After two days of review and discussion, the expert panel judged that the preliminary engineering report is complete in content and is in accordance with the state and industrial specifications in each field, approving the preliminary engineering scheme in principle. The expert panel also offered comments about each area of the project, including machinery, electrical systems, civil works, hydraulic works, coal transportation, chemical and environmental protection, thermal control, heating, air conditioning and ventilation, and technical and economic issues.

The Karamay cogeneration project is located in the Petrochemical Industry Park in Karamay City, in the Xinjiang Autonomous Region. The project has a total planned capacity of 1,400 MW. In Phase I, two 350-MW Chinese-made supercritical, direct air-cooling, combined heat and power units will be built. The units will include flue gas desulfurization devices.

Guodian Karamay Power Generation Company Limited (Karamay, Xinjiang), a subsidiary of China Guodian Corporation, is responsible for the construction and operation of the project. The project owner selected Northwest Power Construction Supervision Company Limited (Xi'an, Shaanxi) as the engineer for the project in July 2010. Site preparation for the project began on August 30, 2010.
