Pulse Plans to Build Four Mine-Mouth Clean Power Plants in West China

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Pulse, a privately run energy company based in Queensland, Australia, signed a $260.32 million agreement with Chongqing Coal Group, a state owned coal company based in Chongqing Municipality (West China), to build and jointly own and operate four clean power plants at coal mine sites in Chongqing Municipality. Chongqing is one of the three municipalities in China under the direct jurisdiction of the Chinese Central Government. The other two directly-controlled municipalities are Beijing and Shanghai.

According to the new agreement, Pulse will develop four 60 MW power stations in Chongqing Municipality that use technology developed by Australia's Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO) to burn low concentration vent air methane to produce clean energy.

About one year ago, Pulse signed another agreement with the Chinese government concerning jointly building power plants in China. According to a statement made by Peter Beattie, the then-Governor of Queensland following the signature of this agreement, Pulse would invest around $132.08 million to build eleven power plants in China using biological materials. Pulse also made a commitment to invest around $ 346.75 million in the following three to five years to facilitate the fuel supply of at least 30 power plants, according to Beattie.

Chongqing Coal Group is a state owned company funded by the municipal government of Chongqing. It now has over 40,000 employees with a total asset of around $ 649.86 million. Its average coal production capacity stands at 10 million tons per year. In 2004, Chongqing Coal Group produced 9.34 million tons of raw coal, accounting for one fifth of the total coal production of Chongqing Municipality that year. Chongqing Coal Group is now under the direct jurisdiction of Municipal State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Chongqing.
