Of these, 76 projects valued at more than $63 billion are located in the West Coast region. This includes 11 commuter rail and light rail projects valued at more than $55 million in California alone.
An example of one of the state's massive rail projects is the $6.1 billion Silicon Valley Rapid Transit Corridor Bart Extension for the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority. The extension includes construction of 16.1 miles of rail system, extending from Warm Springs in Fremont, California to Santa Clara County. Approximately six new stations will be constructed as part of the extension. Utility relocations are expected to start this fall, with rail construction beginning in the spring of 2012. Overall completion is slated for 2016. Circle Point and Bechtel Infrastructure Corporation, both headquartered in San Francisco, California, will provide consulting services for the extension.
