A transmission line/substation project leads Arizona in project value. SouthWestern Power Group II LLC (Phoenix, Arizona) plans to begin construction on the 500-kilowatt, overhead, single-circuit transmission line and new substation in the upcoming quarter in order to complete the substation by the end of 2020 and the transmission line in early 2021. The Willow substation will be constructed near Willcox, Arizona, and the line will connect it to the Pinal Central substation in Eloy, Arizona, a distance of a little more than 100 miles. Burns & McDonnell (Kansas City, Missouri) is the engineer on the projects. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on the transmission line and the substation.
In Nevada, EnviroPower Renewable Incorporated (Boca Raton, Florida) plans to begin construction of a 50-MW waste-to-energy plant in North Las Vegas. The facility will use a Siemens turbine generator and will convert dry waste into synthetic gas to produce electricity. Construction on the project, which has an estimated total investment value (TIV) of $110 million, is expected to be completed in the summer of 2020. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
Among the projects set to wrap up in the quarter is Xcel Energy Incorporated's (NASDAQ:XEL) (Minneapolis, Minnesota) Rush Creek Windfarm near Simla, Colorado. The project will use 300 Vestas wind turbine generators to generate 600 MW. Construction kicked off in the first half 2017, with M.A. Mortenson Company (Minneapolis) providing engineering, procurement and construction (EPC). The project was originally planned to be built in two phases, but Xcel began construction on all 600 MW simultaneously. The $1 billion windfarm is expected to begin commercial operation in late October. For more information, see Industrial Info's project reports on Phase I and Phase II.
Another wind project dominates New Mexico's planned project completions. NextEra Energy Incorporated (NYSE:NEE) (Juno Beach, Florida) will complete the repowering of its New Mexico Wind Energy Center near House late in the quarter. The project involves replacing the blades at the existing 204-MW wind facility with larger blades to increase power by 20%. The $67.3 million project kicked off earlier this year, with Blattner Energy Incorporated (Avon, Minnesota) providing EPC. For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
