SaskPower Plans Maintenance Outages for 2012

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--SaskPower (Regina, Saskatchewan) generates more than 3,500 megawatts of electricity from the company's coal, hydro and wind facilities, as well as natural gas-fired simple-cycle and combined-cycle power stations.

SaskPower has scheduled maintenance outages throughout 2012 to ensure that the units continue safe and reliable operations. The goal is to maximize the plant profitability and generation availability, while minimizing revenue lost while the units are offline.

A major outage is planned mid-year at a 300-MW coal-fired power plant for boiler modifications and turbine maintenance. The company has also scheduled three consecutive outages at simple-cycle facilities in the second half of this year. This work will include replacement of major turbine components.

Details are still being performed on a $1 billion life extension project, replacing the steam turbine generators at a coal plant in Estavan, Saskatchewan.
