September Report Shows Continual Growth in China's Energy Consumption

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--According to the China Electricity Council's monthly report on the Power Industry published on October 24, 2007, China's overall social power consumption reached 2.4 trillion kilowatt-hours (kWh) from January to September of this year, which is an increase of 15.1 % year over year.

•The power consumption in the first industry (agriculture-plantations, forestry, livestock and fisheries) reached 66 billion kWh, an increase of 5.4%.

•The power consumption in the second industry (construction, manufacturing and energy production) reached 1.8 trillion kWh, an increase of 16.8%.

•The power consumption in the third industry (service and transportation) reached 236.7 billion kWh, an increase of 12.2%.

•The power consumption in the urban and township residential area reached 268.6 billion kWh, an increase of 9.6%.v From January to September, the overall power consumption reached 1.8 trillion kWh, an increase of 16.8% year over year. The increases in light and heavy industries are 10% and 18.4%, respectively.

There are 15 provinces and regions with increases above the national average level (15.1%). Inner Mongolia topped the rankings (33.2%), followed by Shanxi (21.4%), Hainan (19.4%), Ningxia (19.2%), Henan (18.9%), Yunnan (18.4%), Hebei (17.7%), Xinjiang (17.6%), Qinghai (16.2%), Guangxi (16.2%), Zhejiang (16%), Fujian (15.8%), Anhui (15.4%), Jiangsu (15.3%) and Hunan (15.3%).

In regard to power generation, the national power output of power plants above scale from January to September reached 2.4 trillion kWh, an increase of 16.4% year over year.

•The power output of hydropower reached 330.7 billion kWh, an increase of 14.6%.

•Thermal power reached 2 trillion kWh, an increase of 16.7%.

•Nuclear power rose to 45.2 billion kWh, an increase of 12.4%.

•Power generation output dispatched by major grids nationwide reached 204.1 trillion kWh, an increase of 16.9%, and the maximum load reached 441.4 million kilowatts (kW), an increase of 16.8% year over year.

From January to September, the total installed capacity of power plants sized 60 MW or above reached 646.9 million kW, an increase of 19.7% year over year.

•The installed capacity of hydropower reached 115.2 million kW, an increase of 13%.

•Thermal power rose to 519.1 million kW, an increase of 20.8%.

•Nuclear power rose to 8.9 million kW, an increase of 29.2%.

From January to September, the total electricity supplied to grids nationwide reached 1.8 trillion kWh, and the total electricity sold by grids nationwide reached 1.7 trillion kWh, an increase of 16.8% and 17.1%, respectively.

From January to September, the total electricity transmitted over regions nationwide reached 70.3 billion kWh; the total import and export of electricity reached 14.7 billion kWh. Imports reached 3.2 billion kWh, and exports reached 11.6 billion kWh.

From January to September, the average accumulated utilization hours of power generation equipment nationwide was 3,777 hours, a decrease of 147 hours year over year.

•The average hours of utilization of hydropower equipment was 2,759 hours, a decrease of 68 hours.

•The average utilization hour of thermal power equipment was 3,984 hours, a decrease of 214 hours.

From January to September, the average coal consumption in the national power supply was 355 g/kWh, a decrease of 10 g/kWh year over year. The rate of plant service nationwide reached 6%, of which hydropower reached 0.40% and thermal power reached 6.8%, respectively. Line losses reached 6.2%, a decrease of 0.2 percentage points year over year.

From January to September, the total added production capacity (in official operation) nationwide reached 65,441.5 megawatts (MW).

•Hydropower added 8,042.4 MW, thermal power added 54,221.9 MW, and nuclear power added 2,120 MW.

•Added substation capacity in grids of 220 KV or above reached 101,990 MVA.

•Newly added transmission lines reached 21,341 kilometers.
