Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Shandong Nuclear Power Company (Yantai, Shandong), a subsidiary of China Power Investment Corporation (Beijing), signed an agreement on October 13 with Progress Energy (NYSE:PGN) (Raleigh, North Carolina), a Fortune 250 energy company, in order to trade information, experience and training regarding AP1000-based nuclear power projects.
In the near future, Progress Energy representatives plan to visit the Haiyang Nuclear Power Station in Yantai City. The companies are working on a project at the site, which involves building six pressurized water reactor generating units with space reserved for expansions. As one of two self-reliance support projects to localize Westinghouse's third-generation AP1000 nuclear power technology in China, the project will have two AP1000 units in Phase I. Foundation excavation began on July 29 on the nuclear power islands of units 1 and 2. The first unit is expected to begin operation in 2014.
