Shanghai Chemical Industry Park Expands

It's expected that the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park (SCIP) will expand westward from the sea to connect to the Jinshan Petrochemical area, thus forming a chemical industry belt extending between 60 and 100 kilometers by 2015. By then, the production value of this industry belt will reach $26 billion and become Asia's largest, and the world's third largest, chemical industry zone. (SCIP) is expected to add $2.62 billion in production value to Shanghai annually and will exceed $15.75 billion by 2010.

Bayer Integrated Chemical Industrial Site with a designed investment of $3.1 billion. By the year 2008 annual production capacity of polycarbonate is expected to rise to 200,000 tons, HDI 50,000 tons and a MDI plant with annual production capacity of 350,000 tons will also finish construction. Other major facilities for Bayer include a BPI facility with annual production capacity of 10,000 tons, a double hydroxybenzene A facility with annual production capacity of 200,000 tons, a diphenyl carbonate facility with annual production capacity of 172,000 tons, and a TDI facility with annual production capacity of 150,000 tons.
BASF poly-tetrahydrofuran went into production in 2005 with a total investment of $305 million. A BPI project with annual production capacity of 8,000 tons also started construction with a total investment of $29.6 million. The tetrahydrofuran plant has annual production capacity of 80,000 tons, and the poly-tetrahydrofuran plant has annual production capacity of 60,000 tons.
Degussa multi-user base now in production with a polyester project with annual production capacity of 9,000 tons, a color paste project with annual production capacity of 8,500 tons and a peroxide project.
Shanghai Secco Petrochemical Company, in which Sinopec, Shanghai Petrochemical Company and British Petroleum East China Investment Company are stakeholders, has underway an ethylene project with annual production capacity of 900,000 tons. Also involved are a polyethylene project with annual production capacity of 600,000 tons, a styrene project with annual production capacity of 500,000 tons, an aromatics extraction project with annual production capacity of 500,000 tons, and a polystyrene project with annual production capacity of 300,000 tons.
Shanghai Huayi Fine Chemical Industrial Base has underway a poly-vinylidene fluoride project with annual production capacity of 1,000 tons and a hexa-fluoroacetone project with annual production capacity of 1,000 tons.
Shanghai Chemical Industry Park is located to the south of Shanghai Municipality and on the northern bank of Hangzhouwan Bay, 50 kilometers away from downtown Shanghai. It covers a land area of 29.4 square kilometers and is one of the biggest industrial projects in Chinas10th five-year plan period. It is Chinas first special development zone devoted to petroleum and fine chemical industry and also the southern heart of Shanghais six major industrial bases. Shanghais six major industrial bases are Micro-electronic Industrial Base, International Automobile Town, SCIP, Top Steel Industrial Base, Lingang New Town Industrial Base dedicated to hi-tech industry and Shanghai Shipping Industrial Base.
