Shanghai Electric to Supply Turbines for East Sea Bridge Offshore Windfarm Expansion

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Shanghai Electric Corporation Limited (SHA:601727) (Shanghai) is expected to become the supplier of the wind turbines for the East Sea Bridge Offshore Windfarm Expansion project, according to a senior member of the project.

The East Sea Bridge Offshore Windfarm, located near the Nanhui district of Shanghai, is the first offshore windfarm in China. The windfarm is being developed by Shanghai East Sea Wind Power Generation Company Limited (Shanghai), a joint venture of China Datang Corporation (Beijing) (28%), Shanghai Green Energy Engineering Company Limited (Shanghai) (24%), China Guangdong Nuclear Power Corporation (Shenzhen) (24%) and China Power International Company Limited (Hong Kong) (24%). Phase I of the windfarm was furnished with 34 SL3000 wind turbines manufactured by Sinovel Wind Group Company Limited (Beijing). Each turbine had a capacity of 3 megawatts (MW). Construction of Phase I began in September 2008, and all units were commissioned in June this year.

As disclosed, the Phase II expansion will be furnished with 31 wind turbines, each with capacities of 3.6 MW, plus one 5-MW experimental wind turbine. The expansion project has received preliminary approval from the government. Construction of the project is expected to begin by the end of this year.

In addition to the East Sea Bridge Offshore Windfarm, Shanghai Electric will also supply wind turbines of the same model to Dongtai Offshore Windfarm, in the Jiangsu province. Huadian Power International Corporation Limited (SHA:600027) (Beijing), the listed flagship of China Huadian Corporation (Beijing), just won the development rights for the 200-MW Dongtai Offshore Windfarm in a recent concession bidding organized by the National Energy Administration.
