Sharon Ethanol Cancels Plans for Wisconsin Ethanol Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Start-up ethanol venture Sharon Ethanol LLC (Whitewater, Wisconsin), which is a limited liability company formed by Global Renewable LLC (Whitewater), has cancelled plans to develop a fuel ethanol plant in the village of Sharon, Wisconsin. The project has been in the works since late 2006, but the company put the project on hold in November 2009. After years of waiting for the economy, the lending markets and the ethanol industry to bounce back, the company has cancelled plans to construct the facility.

The company had identified a 187-scre site along the railroad tracks west of Sharon, off State Highway 67, as the site for the estimated $275 million plant. The company was in talks with now-defunct ethanol plant builder Delta-T Corporation (Williamsburg, Virginia) to build the plant. Plans involved the construction of a 120 million-gallon-per-year fuel ethanol plant that would have processed more than 46 million bushels of locally grown corn annually.

The company was dissolved in December of last year, and Sharon is still trying to get new ethanol developers to look at the site in hopes of moving forward on the project.

Since the ethanol industry began to struggle, Wisconsin has had 11 plant developers cancel projects or put projects on hold. That represents more than 488 million gallons of would-be ethanol capacity and a potential market for more than 187 million bushels of corn annually.
