Shearers Foods Commissions Snack Food Plant in Massillon

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Shearers Foods Incorporated (Brewster, Ohio) has begun commissioning Phase I of a new snack food manufacturing plant and corporate headquarters on a 14-acre site in the Millennium Industrial Park in Massillon, Ohio. Operations at the facility are expected to begin this spring and will employ between 35 and 40 people. The company expects to generate a further 180 full-time jobs over the next three years, when Phase II is completed and the facility is fully operational.

Initially scheduled to become operational last summer, after it was first announced in the spring of 2008, construction began last summer on the state's first gold-certified Leadership and Environmental Design food plant. This first phase of the project is valued at $20 million and included the construction of 64,000 square feet, which features a 17 million-pound-per-year tortilla production. Architectural services for the new facility were being provided by John Picard (Canton, Ohio), and the project's construction manager is Schumacher Construction Company (Massillon, Ohio). R.G. The next phase, which will increase the facility to 268,000 square feet, includes potato chip production, warehouse and distribution, and corporate offices is expected to kick off sometime in the summer of 2010. When completed, the total cost of the project is expected to reach $66.5 million.
