EARNINGS
Shell Flags Up to $4.5 Billion in Potential Fourth-Quarter Writedowns - Shell plc (NYSE:SHEL) (London, England) on Monday flagged impairment charges of up to $4.5 billion for the fourth quarter of 2023, mainly related to the Singapore refining and chemicals hub the oil major is looking to sell. Ahead of fourth-quarter results on February 1, the company also said gas trading would be significantly higher than the previous three-month period, while oil trading results were expected to be significantly lower over the same period. REFINING
Nigeria's Dangote Refinery Readies for Test Run - Nigeria's Dangote oil refinery could begin test runs as early as this week after receiving a sixth crude oil cargo on Monday, company officials said, finally bringing the 650,000-barrel-per-day plant to life after years of construction delays. Nigeria currently imports most of its fuel, but the Dangote refinery will make it self-sufficient and able to export fuel to neighbors in West Africa, potentially transforming oil trading in the Atlantic Basin. Asian Thermal Coal Imports Hit Record in December - Asia's imports of seaborne thermal coal rose to a record high in December as top buyer China sucked up cargoes amid peak winter demand. Asia's imports of seaborne thermal coal reached 83.69 million metric tons in December, up from 78.87 million in November and the highest in records compiled by commodity analysts Kpler going back to January 2017.
