Shendong Coal Group Surpasses 100 Million Tons in First Half 2010

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--From January through June 2010, the coal output of Shendong Coal Group Company Limited (Shenmu, Shaanxi) reached a record high of 100.8 million metric tons. Of this, the output of commodity coal reached 93.7 million metric tons, according to an announcement from the Shenhua Group Corporation Limited (Beijing).
As the core coal producer in the Shenhua Group, Shendong Coal Group was formed from the reconstruction of four mining enterprises in the Shendong Mining Zone in May 2009. The company is mainly responsible for the development of the Shendong Mining Zone, which spans the regions of Shaanxi, Shanxi and Inner Mongolia. The company also operates the Baode Coal Mine in Shanxi province. Shendong Coal owns 17 coal mines, including 11 in Inner Mongolia, five in Shaanxi and one in Shanxi with a total coal production capacity of more than 200 million metric tons per year. Of these mines, three have a production capacity of more than 20 million metric tons per year; two produce 15 million metric tons per year, five produce 10 million metric tons. In 2009, Shendong Coal Group's coal output reached 178 million metric tons, accounting for 60% of the total output in Shenhua, or 6% of the total coal output in China.
In the first half of 2010, by taking advantage of advanced exploitation processes and high-seam working face, the output of Bulianta, Daliuta and Shanwan Coal Mine was up 430,000 metric tons, 400,000 metric tons and 300,000 metric tons, respectively. In the first half 2010, the calorific value of commodity coal produced by Shendong Coal Group was 5,280 kilocalories, which was 10 kilocalories higher than planned.
According to the statistics of the China National Coal Association, in the first half this year, China's coal output reached 1.57 billion metric tons, an increase of 263 million metric tons, or 20%, year over year. The nation's sales of commodity coal reached 1.55 billion metric tons, an increase of 300 million metric tons, or 24%, year over year.
