Siouxland Ethanol Begins Ethanol Production in Nebraska

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Farmer cooperative start-up Siouxland Ethanol LLC (Jackson, Nebraska), has begun grinding corn and producing small batches of ethanol from its new $76 million, 50 million gallon per year fuel ethanol plant that is located in Jackson, Nebraska roughly ten miles west of Sioux Falls, South Dakota in the Northeast corner of the state.

As reported back in November 2005, the company held a groundbreaking ceremony to commemorate construction starting. For details, view November 4, 2005 article -Siouxland Ethanol Plans Groundbreaking Today on $76 Million Fuel Ethanol Plant in Nebraska. Construction of the plant took eighteen months to complete and the cooperative has begun grinding corn and expects to be running at full capacity within the next two weeks. The process machinery was officially turned on Wednesday and company officials are carefully watching and inspecting the plant to ensure efficiency and product quality.

The plant will utilize ICM’s licensed process technology and was built by leading ethanol plant constructor Fagen Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota). The plant has a nameplate capacity of 50 million gallons per year and will also generate about 165,000 tons per year of distillers dried grains, a by-product of ethanol production.

Some 18 million bushels of locally grown corn will be processed at the plant annually to produce the renewable fuel and ethanol coming from the plant will be marketed by ADM (Decatur, Illinois).

The plant will also collect methane gas from the local landfill to run their boilers that is expected to save money on fuel costs.

With the addition of the Siouxland plant, the state of Nebraska now has thirteen plants running with the capacity of producing over 727 million gallons of fuel ethanol annually. Fourteen additional plants are currently under construction in the state and once the last of these plants go online, Nebraska’s capacity for producing ethanol will grow to over 1.6 billion gallons annually.
